One of the joys of walking through my neighborhood is all the lovely flowers I find in my neighbors’ yards. Joy on a Stem, is an amazing surprise that was waiting in the shadows… literally.
Poppies are my indicator that Summer has arrived. They literally pop up out of nowhere, spread joy. Then they close down with one of the nicest looking seed pods I have ever seen. They are grand from the first leaves, through to the seed pod just before it explodes. I love the extreme difference between the soft, delicate petals and the overwhelming presence of the pistils and stamens. Add wind and set this amazing blossom dancing. Then you have true joy on a stem.
I think people who like poppies, live near each other. At least that is what my sampling of the neighborhood says. To go a step further, they even are in clusters as to what type of poppy.

30% of our proceeds to Wildfire Relief through October
As we mentioned in our last new letter, we will contribute 30% of our proceeds to West Coast Fire Relief through the end of October. We’ve updated our page with our reasons to include links to the organizations to which we will be donating. The first organization we’d like to highlight is World Central Kitchen. The link points to an article on their Latest News section highlighting their work in the Oregon for Wildfire Relief and work they are also doing on the Gulf Coast for Hurricane Relief. Here’s snippet from that link.
… wildfires have devastated the west coast, from California to Washington. WCK’s Relief Team responded to fires in both northern and southern California this year, and now for the first time in our organization’s history, Oregon. Wildfires in the state have already burned over 1,000,000 acres of land. Establishing a kitchen in Portland, WCK mobilized our Chef Relief Team to feed firefighters and evacuees south of the city.
