The Wood Sings

Some paintings whisper.

This one doesn’t whisper. This one doesn’t hum. This one Sings.

The Wood Sings is a close-up figurative still life of a violin — focused intimately on the sound hole, strings, and bridge — where structure meets vibration, and discipline meets desire.

I trained first as a musician: The exactness of harmony and timing. Fingering and pressure.
Then as an artist.

This painting lives where those worlds overlap.

Where Music becomes color. Every musician knows the moment: the separate notes gathering, aligning, coalescing into something larger than themselves.

That is what I wanted this painting to hold.

The dark curve of the violin’s body. The elegant precision of the strings. The architectural strength of the bridge. Exact and mathematical. Then the subtle, almost secret reflections that appear only when light strikes varnished wood just right. The deep mahogany shadows and luminous tonal shifts mesmerized me. I pushed the colors, just a little. Intensified the contrast. Sharpened the lines.

I wanted this to sing off the canvas.
