A Very Fine Birthday Indeed (or a Rather Lovely Opening for a Studio)

It is a truth universally acknowledged (at least by Hobbits and a few wise women) that a birthday ought to involve three things:

  • something beautiful,
  • something shared, and
  • something just a little bit indulgent.

This year, I’ve taken that quite seriously. So instead of simply adding another candle to the cake, I’ve opened a door. A round one, if you’re picturing it properly. And behind it? My new online studio — filled to the brim with the blossoms I’ve been quietly tending, petal by petal, shadow by shadow, in oil pastels.

Now, before you imagine polite little flowers behaving themselves in tidy arrangements — let me assure you, these are not those flowers.

These are the lean-in closer flowers.
The how is that color even real? flowers.
The suddenly you’ve forgotten your to-do list flowers.

They are up close—very close—until they become something found between a secret and a celebration. Every curve, every ripple, every riotous splash of color is an invitation to pause… and to smile (or gasp, depending on your temperament and your coffee intake).

Because here’s what I believe, deeply and without apology:

Beauty is not frivolous.
Color is not optional.
And surrounding yourself with things that make you feel alive is a healing, joyful, sensible life choice — arguably one of the best.

So yes — this is a studio. You can browse, fall in love, and bring a piece home to live with you in your sunlit hallway or above the place where you drink your morning coffee and contemplate your full life.

But it’s also a bit of a gathering.

A place for people who have built remarkable lives — and are wise enough to know that joy belongs in the details. That a room can shift with a single piece of art. That nature, when you really look at it, is both extravagant and grounding in the most delicious way.

In true Hobbit Birthday fashion… I am sharing my joy with you.

So, consider this your invitation: to wander, to linger, to choose something that delights you more than it strictly needs to.

No practical justification required — we’ve gone past that, haven’t we?

Thank you for being here — for your presence, your appreciation of beauty in all its bold, fleeting, glorious forms.

Now go on — have a look around.

With laughter, love, and a just a dash of frosting,

 — Cynthia
